自分を信じる jibun o shinjiru Believe in Oneself

自分を信じる is a sentence of decision, a choice to trust your own self. 自分 is the reflexive, oneself, so the words are true for whoever says them. Said to a friend or said to yourself, they mean the same. In Ozaki Kōyō's novel 金色夜叉, a jilted man tells the woman he loved that he had believed in her as much as in himself.

English and Japanese share the verb and the object here; the line adds nothing and loses nothing in either direction.
