野獣 yajū Beast

野獣 is a wild beast, an animal that lives in the wild. Said of a person, it means a brute. It is the beast of Beauty and the Beast, whose Japanese title is 美女と野獣 (bijo to yajū).

The Japanese word 野獣 meaning "Beast" is composed of the kanji 野 (read ya) meaning "plains; field; rustic" and 獣 (read jū) meaning "animal; beast".
