夏草や兵どもが夢の跡 (natsukusa ya tsuwamono domo ga yume no ato)
A haiku by Matsuo Basho, read natsukusa ya tsuwamono domo ga yume no ato. Basho wrote it at Hiraizumi, on the ground where the Fujiwara warriors fell, and it appears in his travel account Oku no Hosomichi. 兵 (tsuwamono) is a warrior of that older kind. What is left of them is grass.
