人も見ぬ春や鏡のうらの梅 (hito mo minu haru ya kagami no ura no ume)
A haiku by Matsuo Basho, read hito mo minu haru ya kagami no ura no ume. Old Japanese mirrors carried their decoration cast into the reverse, the side no one looks at. The plum (梅, ume) is the first tree to flower, so the spring on the back of the mirror is one that arrives every year and is never seen.
