天使 tenshi Angel

天使 is an angel, a messenger of God who carries his will to people and guards them. It is also a gentle, pure-hearted person. 白衣の天使 (hakui no tenshi), the angel in white, is a nurse. When a talk falls quiet, Japanese says an angel passes, 天使が通る (tenshi ga tōru).

The Japanese word 天使 meaning "Angel" is composed of the kanji 天 (read ten) meaning "heavens; sky" and 使 (read shi) meaning "messenger; envoy".
