The sentence 始めに神は天と地を創造された is the first sentence in the Bible and is similarly written in all of my Japanese Bibles. The sentence consists of 始めに (read hajimeni) meaning "in the beginning", 神 (read kami) meaning "God", the grammatical element は (read wa) indicating that "God" is the subject of the sentence, 天 (read ten) meaning "Heaven", と (read to) a grammatical element meaning "and", 地 (read chi) meaning "Earth", を (read wo) a grammatical element meaning that the preceeding are the objects of the verb and finally the verb which consists of 創造 (read souzou) and sareta which is the past tense of される (read sareru) which is an honorific form of the verb する (read suru) which used to make souzou a verb.
